Welcome to MY HOUSE!

It's done, I officially own my own home. Yesterday the girls went to settlement with me and then we went straight in for a look around before we start piling in all of our stuff.

Entry above. The girls check out Mandy's enormous first floor bedroom below.

Living room above, my completed kitchen below (no fridge til Tuesday....)

Danielle finds peace in the sunroom above, the girls check out the deck below.

Builder-fabulous bathroom above, Danielle takes a stroll through her closet below.

It was a very exciting day but by evening I was tired and cranky, and my back hurt! But today is another exciting day and the movers will be here in a hour. I must go do the 8 million things I need to do today... Have a nice weekend everyone!

Today is the Day!

I have been completely remiss in my blogging duties as I've been packing, making endless phone calls about the mortgage and utilities, and stressing out all week about settlement today. But I have been tossing and turning since 5am so I thought I'd might as well get up! I will own a house in about 8 hours or so, here it is all finished (well, 99%):

They are going to fix the light pole and re-coat the driveway, and some of the wires hanging out the front will be taken care of once the utilities are switched over (I really need a couple of big topiaries or something to hide those horrible meters). Also, the lovely orange cone is already gone. I did my walk-through with Wes my construction manager yesterday, and the interior looks great!

This morning I am clearing up my desk at work and then will be off for a whole week working on settling in. My daughters have picked out their paint colors (be afraid... be very afraid!) so they will start working on painting today already while I finish getting ready for the movers to come tomorrow.

It's going to be a long, tiring weekend, but I am so ready to get in my new house!

Outdoor Wednesday - My New Deck and Pavement

It's Outdoor Wednesday, hosted by Susan at http://asoutherndaydreamer.blogspot.com. I know it's getting old, but I have nothing happening but cardboard boxes and construction! Here is my new deck, freshly constructed on Monday morning:

It's very tiny but I think it will be just perfect for me and some plants. Today they poured some concrete - new sidewalks. Tomorrow is carpet day, then cleaning and another coat of paint. They will put in the driveway and sod, straw out back, paint the exterior trim, and then go through with any finishing touches. In 8 days, I'll have my walk-through, and then settlement. I know you will all be excited for me to shut up about it already!

Looks like I should have slowed down when I took this photo - it's a bit crooked. Have a happy Wednesday!

My Filthy Kitchen!

I got in my house Monday to see what has been happening, since we are just 10 days from the "reveal". My kitchen is now all in place, and it is exactly like I pictured it, except for the dirt!

I really can't wait to install the backsplash. I'm going with something like this:I love the old tin ceiling style of it and I think the metallic finish will add a lot. I'm having a hard time deciding on the wall color though. I make up my mind and change it a couple times a day! I need to find an accent piece - art or a platter or something - for above the sink and something to hang along the soffit.

Metamorphosis Monday - Shabby to Chic

It's time again for Metamorphosis Monday, hosted by Susan at http://betweennapsontheporch.blogspot.com.

I received this little curio cabinet as a wedding shower gift nearly 25 years ago from my brother's now-ex-wife. (There is a lady who should blog, you should see the great things she has done in her house. Seriously!) Anyway, I've always loved this but wanted to change it up and use it in my bedroom at the new house, which I am going to do in a shabby chic style.

So I painted it a creamy white and distressed it. I started having doubts with the first coat of paint, but I really love how it turned out and can't wait to accessorize it once it's hung up in the new house.Have a great week everyone!

Bargain of the week

My middle daughter is home from college on break this week and we were talking about the new house (of course!) and how she wants to decorate her room. We went out looking at paint chips, and then poofy white duvets, and I just happened to see this and immediately fell in love with it for my guest bath, which I am doing in blue and brown. Now, this is not tiny, it's hard to tell the size from the photo, but it's about a foot tall. I figured, it's TJ Maxx, so this is probably pretty reasonably priced, like $12.99 or $9.99, so I flipped it over...

$3.99! I didn't want to buy anything else before I move since I just have to pack it, but... Ok, no more shopping! Well, we did want to go look at curtains...

Getting all dressed up for Outdoor Wednesday!

It's Outdoor Wednesday, hosted by Susan at http://asoutherndaydreamer.blogspot.com. I didn't expect to have a post today, but I found a surprise when I went by my new house after work Tuesday.

My little house has got her new outfit on, the siding was installed today! Many finishing touches remain to be done in the next 17 days before settlement! This is not the final version of how the house will look, the white trim will be painted to match the siding and the shutters and door are going to be a dark red color.

They also filled in the utility trenches, but left a very large dirt pile in front of the garage. Right now, I'm looking forward to seeing them put the deck on out back. I'm all set to move in on the first day of spring, and I'm hoping for dry weather!

Three or More Tuesday

I didn't have anything morphed in time for Met Monday, but I am ready for 3 or More Tuesday, hosted by Tam at http://gypsycorner.blogspot.com. Over the weekend I visited my parents and my mom had made these 3 sachets for me. They are jasmine scented and she tied a tiny antique watch face to the little stack.

Aren't they pretty? Mom is now addicted to reading all your blogs too, and you should see all the stuff she's been finding at auctions. I can't get her to start her own blog yet, but I'm working on it!
