Teeny Weeny Powder Blue Powder Room

Time for Metamorphosis Monday, hosted by Susan at Between Naps on the Porch, or for a quick link - http://betweennapsontheporch.blogspot.com/2009/07/welcome-to-27th-metamorphosis-monday.html

When I was on my painting binge last month, I painted my little bitty foyer bathroom "Sleepy Blue" from Sherwin Williams. I have put off photographing it because I don't feel it's quite "done", but I can't find what I'm looking for, so we'll go with what we have so far. I didn't do "before" shots, but certainly anyone can picture this builder white and empty, right?
I started with a different color that had a bit of green to it and that was all wrong from the minute I put it on the wall. Luckily I was using one of the $5 sample cans, so just went back and got another. I hit it right with this color, it was just what I had in mind. The room is so small, the sample can covered the whole thing! However, I bought another one to do a second coat.
I found a couple prints with some taupe/brown/blue tones, and got both blue and brown hand towels to swap out.
The little cabinet over the toilet was an absolute necessity because there was nothing but a pedestal sink and toilet in the room, and my daughter Amanda is using this room for toothbrushing, etc while she is home from college. Pedestal sinks don't leave much room for toiletries, and even the mirror is just a mirror, not a medicine cabinet. However, the white cabinet is very bare looking and I need some accessories. I love these little boxes, but they don't go with the look. I need to find some little brown birds or something more earthy. So that is my dilemma, and I have found nothing, zip, zilch, nada, that will fit on this tiny shelf and has the look I'm going for.
I picked out a small rug which barely fits in the room, but Mandy likes it because it keeps her feet warm. The little basket holds items too big for the cabinet (huge bottle of mouthwash...)
When I find something to "finish" it, I will be sure to show it again. Happy Monday!

I know exactly what you mean about waiting to finish a room before posting...but sometimes it is good to go for it and post it, maybe a reader will have an idea about the perfect finishing touch!

I love the color you chose. I agree about pedestal sinks - they are pretty, but pose a challenge for storage - I like your solution to the storage problem.

Are we ever finished a room or is our brain starting on the next changes as soon as we think we are done?

Very nice I really like the blues and browns.. you are on the right track the rug is very pretty and I think when you are out looking around the right item for the shelf will be there. I also think something natural or bird's maybe some foilage mixed into it would warm it up..Can't wait to see what you choose.
Have a blest day,
Jolyn

A piece at a time is the way to go. Takes a while to get it done but you will love everything in the room. Tiny bathrooms are difficult but you did such a nice job. I haven't even begun in mine and we are in our house almost a year~ ~Ahrisha~ ~

You've used one of my fav shades of blue The room is very pretty with the pedestal sink. Did you think of revamping the colorful containers with paint or decoupage. I did some round ones with old mariner maps and some odd (as in all different patterns) square boxes with pink and white polka dots trimming them with lace and beads.Hope that sparks your imagination. Are the big enough for toilet paper.

Your bath looks lovely. I like that shade of blue and the brown is a wonderful accent. I also like that rug a lot!!

For the shelf, you might try Bath & Body Works. They have so many different scents that come in so mant shades, you will find something in your color theme for sure (and it will have a purpose given you like the scent!!) I think a couple of small brown picture frames would look good too with some pics of your flowers and plants or even the sky!!

Happy Met Monday!! :-)

Being away from blogging has one advantage. It is fun to have multiple posts from you to read. I love the blue bathroom. Blue walls are my favorite. Even when my daughter told me that our living and dining rooms looked like a little boy's nursery, I was still happy with blue walls. I am planning a blue bathroom i the new house, and will check out your SW color. I have the entire SW paint deck, so after some coffee, I can get my butt off of this chair and check out your color.
The brown looks really pretty as the accent color. The room might be tiny, but it just might be my fave in your new home.
