It's time again for Metamorphosis Monday! Please click on the icon in my sidebar to visit Susan at Between Naps on the Porch, our gracious hostess for this weekly event, and link to all the other "mets" happening around blogland.
Last week I showed you my powder room, and this week I'm featuring my master bath. My starting canvas is a basic builder bath. Not that I'm complaining, I am certainly happy it's strictly a cosmetic makeover:
Basically what I have done so far is paint the walls and decorate, hardly a major redo, but the effect is pretty dramatic, I think. I chose "Bagel" from Sherwin Williams as my paint color, because I thought it looked like a nice neutral but warm beige. I have to say, in natural light it looks rather hideously like human skin, but my bathroom thankfully has no natural light, so the effect is a bit less creepy.
The color is really washed out by the flash in the pic below, the one above is more true to life.
I have had this big picture for a few years, I really like it in this room.
All my little canisters store makeup, brushes, and other necessities that don't fit in the tiny medicine cabinet (the mirror to the right of the vanity).
All the accessories coordinate....
I have a tiny linen closet that holds a broom and a couple of towels:
But I've also got this huge space where I want to put a storage piece to hold additional towels and extra toiletries. I am still looking for the right piece:
So, that is my little makeover. I'm hoping to change out the light fixture eventually for something less HOT, and also to frame the mirror in black. I'm also planning to paint the base cabinet black and add some nickel hardware. Think it will be too dark?
Thanks for coming by!

Nice job...love the black accents and the picture above the towel rack.
What a great bathroom! I love every detail! :)

Your bathroom looks great. It all goes together great. I love the black corner piece. Do you remember where you got it?
To answer your question on the patio, it is not stamped. It is big squares that were put down on top of cement.
Oh, it looks just stunning. I love all the wonderful accessories that you chose. They are all so pretty. What a wonderful bathroom now. Hugs, Marty
You did a great job. It looks like a new room. I love all the canisters.

From empty to cozy! Great job you have done with your bath!
You really dressed that bathroom from blah to beautiful! Love the black accents and the picture!

Tracy,
I love the bath and I think the color just doesn't look right in some of the photos but it is great in others...so don't worry about it.
You have made this bath your own and it looks really classy! I do love it. I would think a bit before I painted the cabinet! Every urge is to go black or white! And that is okay if that is the sort of person you are (not that you would paint it purple, LOL!!!) but another idea is to sand the heck out of it and go over it with polyurethene or paint it white and use a glaze. There are a lot of books at Home Depot, etc... don't fall in to a singular minded trap... ;-)

You are doing such a great job on prettying up the bathroom. I think black around the mirror and on the cabinet will be pretty.
I hope you find just the perfect piece for that corner. The other corner piece is so cute. I love how you used the canisters to hold things.
Hi !
Your bathroom is so elegant ! I love how warm it is now....
Find some black fabric and some white fabric...drape it over your cabinet to see the difference in color - look at it in different lights too ...this may help you decide before taking the plunge !

Hello Tracy,
Very nice job on the bath. I like the idea of black with nickle finish knobs. Or if you don't do black a charcole gray might work nice, more sutle. But whatever you choose I know it will look great. Have a good week.

What a transformation! It looks fabulous! I love the beige with the black accents.

It is beautiful! I know you must be proud of your house, and it shows. It has a lot of class. I would think twice about painting that cabinet black if there is no natural light. Just my inclination... But everything you have chosen is perfect for this space!

Great makeover.
And that space that is empty? I wish I had that!
A big storage credenza would be great!
Hi! Hey, our bathrooms are very much alike. I just finished revamping mine and I did paint the bottom cabinet black and made a frame around the mirror. Come over and see. And you are right about the hot lights over the mirror. You could also try lower wattage in each bulb. That's what we had to do in another bathroom that had more bulbs. -shirl
A little paint and the right "bling" can make a huge difference. Looks great :0)
Really nice improvement; I like it much better...warm and inviting.
I didn't read ALL of the other comments, so there is the possibility that somebody else mentioned this idea - but how about looking for a "Bakers Rack" for your storage corner. Sometimes you can even find them in the clearance section of furniture stores ... and if it's gold colored, paint it black. The style would then match the little shelfs that your canisters are on.
I agree about using lower wattage bulbs above your sink! You could paint the metal light base black, and then add bulb covers to change the appearance ....

The black mirror frame and paint will look beautiful! I like what you have done so far.
HI Tracey! I'm just checking in on you. Hope all is well.
BE a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Bath: Love that warm, homey color !
Any canisters would be great in a bath...if they have printing in then (sugar, tea)just turn them around. Beautiful picture too!
